Solar Electric Vehicles Come to Chicago
The Solar Electric Vehicle Company formed about four years ago. This year they received a huge break when Illinois passed a law making their golf-cart-like vehicles street legal. That means you can drive them on streets up to a 35 mph speed limit.
They range in size, from the small four-person car, to a larger trolley that can seat 18. The concept stays the same, each vehicle is completely powered by electricity. They charge overnight in a standard outlet, and use an estimated 80 cents of electricity per charge.
What’s so cool about them? The solar roofs. As you drive around on a sunny day, the battery is actually re-charging. That means you can zoom around at speeds up to 25 mph and get 60 miles on a charge. Not a bad way to spend less than a dollar.
